The Local Verdict
Mirište is my go-to recommendation for escaping the “ritzy” chaos of the main riviera; it’s a place I return to again and again, especially during peak season. While the beach itself is narrow, I love how it extends over the cliffs into those concrete patios – it creates a very intimate, almost private feeling. I highly suggest coming here by boat; whether you rent your own or take a water taxi, the view of the cliffs and Mamula Island from the water is unbeatable. Just a warning: bring water shoes. The entry isn’t the gentlest, and it’s the best way to stay safe from the occasional sea urchin while you enjoy some of the clearest snorkeling in the bay.

Visiting Mirište Beach evokes feelings of those “good old days” when life was much slower and simpler. The air is heavy with the healthy scents of ocean breeze and fresh pines, creating a sensory experience that perfectly defines the untouched Luštica Peninsula. This is the quintessential Mediterranean lifestyle in its purest form: unpretentious, authentic, and without the hurried elements common elsewhere.
The beach sits tucked away on the southern flanks of the peninsula, offering a unique vantage point of the Adriatic. From the shoreline, you can see the tiny island monastery of Žanjic in the foreground, with the imposing silhouette of Mamula Island and the Croatian coastline further in the distance. It is especially beautiful in the evening hours when the sun sets and the bay becomes dotted with sailboats and yachts.

Logistics & Access
The Insider Strategy If you want to skip the driving stress entirely, arrive by water. Throughout 2026, regular boats depart from the Herceg Novi marina and Igalo starting at 09:00. For around €10–€15, you get a scenic tour of the bay and drop-off right at the Mirište stone dock, bypassing the peninsula’s tricky roads entirely.
Where to Stay
Because Mirište is a secluded enclave, the best stays are the family-run villas and boutique hotels hidden among the olive groves. Booking a stay directly in the cove allows you to enjoy the bay in the early morning and late evening, long after the day-trippers have returned to the mainland.
