All along Montenegro’s coast, you’ll find beaches that are suitable for naturism, where it’s easier to find privacy, even during the busiest time of the year. It is true however that the increased popularity of Montenegro as a tourist destination has led to the discovery of many secret spots previously reserved for nudists.
Nudists now increasingly have to share the precious shoreline with the ones who prefer bikinis and swim shorts over sunbathing ‘au naturel‘. There are a few officially designated nude beaches in Montenegro, on the other ones nudism has merely become a tradition.
The Naturist Shortlist
Editor’s selection for the ultimate freedom on the Adriatic
Ada Bojana
A legendary 3km sandy island on the Albanian border. The only place in Montenegro for a full-scale, dedicated nudist resort experience.
Albatros Beach
Deep water, stone terraces, and ancient pines. A sophisticated, official nudist beach with a private, ‘members-club’ feel.
Ratac Peninsula
Wild, silvery stone beaches hidden in a pine forest. The local favorite for sunset swims and a relaxed, authentic atmosphere.
Budva Riviera
Jaz (Western Edge)
The Budva Classic📍 Location: Western end of Jaz Beach, Budva
Pebble & Rock
Shoreline Walk
Moderate
Free
Even at one of Montenegro’s busiest beaches, you can find a sanctuary of clothes-free calm. The western edge of Jaz Beach is geographically separated from the main sunbed zones by a series of rugged rock formations. To find this secluded stretch, simply walk past the commercial zones until the crowd thins. Here, the water is exceptionally clear, and the atmosphere shifts into a quiet, laid-back vibe where naturists can relax in peace.
For those seeking extra privacy, look for the small, sandy pockets tucked between the large boulders at the water’s edge. These “mini-coves” are perfect for chilling in the shade and offer a great vantage point for snorkeling along the rocky coastline.
Crvena Glavica “Secret Beach”
Geologic Wonder📍 Location: Near Sveti Stefan, Budva Riviera
Rocks & Red Pebbles
10m Hike/Climb
Gradually Deep
Free
Nestled between dramatic red cliffs near Sveti Stefan, Crvena Glavica is a visual masterpiece. While the main bay has recently become home to the upscale Roho Beach Club, the spirit of naturism lives on in the more remote outcroppings. The furthest southern bays remain a “Robinson Crusoe” haven, perfect for those prepared to master a 10-minute descent through the pines. Here, the contrast of crimson-colored pebbles against crystal-clear azure water creates a wild, natural beauty.
Due to the popularity of the nearby beach club, you may encounter more “textiles” (clothed swimmers) than in previous years. To find the true nudist sections, continue trekking past the first two bays until you find the more rugged, hidden inlets facing west.
Bar Riviera
Utjeha Nude Beach
Quiet Alternative📍 Location: Between Bar and Ulcinj
Rocky / Untamed
Rough Trail
Moderate
Free
Tucked away from the main resort crowds, the nudist section of Utjeha is a secluded, untamed refuge that draws a mix of locals and savvy travelers. While you won’t find sand here, you are rewarded with some of the highest water quality on the coast—the result of fresh mountain springs mixing with the salty Adriatic. Its relative remoteness and rugged shoreline make it one of the most effective spots to truly unwind in total privacy, surrounded only by the sound of the waves.
The path leading to this beach is often neglected and can be quite rough. We highly recommend wearing sturdy footwear for the walk and water shoes for the sea cliffs, as the transition into the water involves navigating sharp stones and rocks.
Ratac Nudist Beaches
Local Favorite📍 Location: Ratac Peninsula, between Sutomore & Bar
Silvery Stone
10m Forest Walk
Moderate
Free
Hidden within the scented pine forests of Cape Ratac, these twin wild beaches offer a soulful escape from the modern coastline. A scenic 10-minute walk through the woods brings you to the outermost headland, where the shimmering azure water and silvery stones suddenly reveal themselves below. While Ratac is technically within walking distance of the high-energy Sutomore Beach, it feels a world away, defined by a relaxed vibe, a friendly local crowd, and an atmosphere of pure, unpretentious freedom.
Ratac is arguably one of the best places on the Bar Riviera to watch the sun dip below the Adriatic. The panoramic views of the neighboring bays are breathtaking, and the golden hour light reflecting off the silver rocks makes for a truly magical evening swim.
Ulcinj Riviera
Ada Bojana Beach
The Legend📍 Location: Ulcinj, Southernmost tip of Montenegro
Fine Sand
Easy (Bridge)
Very Shallow
€€ (Mid-Range)
For a full-scale naturist immersion, Ada Bojana is peerless. Situated on a triangular river island bordering Albania, this three-kilometer stretch of fine, therapeutic sand represents the absolute pinnacle of freedom on the Adriatic. While the northern end offers the relative structure of sun loungers and resort amenities, the true soul of the island lies further south. Here, the modern world falls away, replaced by sweeping dunes and a vast, open horizon that guarantees maximum privacy for those who prefer their beach days entirely “au naturel.”
Seeking total intimacy? Head to the southern end where the landscape shifts into towering sand dunes. These natural hideaways offer a “desert island” vibe, shielding you from the resort crowds and providing the ultimate sanctuary for undisturbed sunbathing.
Valdanos Nudist Beach
Hidden Gem📍 Location: Olive Groves of Ulcinj
Large Pebbles
10m Forest Trail
Deep / Rocky
Free
Forget traditional sunbathing; Valdanos is a rugged sanctuary for those who love to explore. Reached via winding roads through ancient, silver-green olive groves, this quaint cove is steeped in history, passing the haunting remains of a former Yugoslav military resort. A semi-paved pathway leads you away from the main beach to a secluded outcrop where the modern world vanishes. Here, the water is exceptionally crystalline and deep, making it the premier destination for a peaceful, clothes-free swim along dramatic, vertical cliffs.
The clarity here is unrivaled. Bring your mask and fins to explore the underwater rock formations along the steep shoreline. Since there is no sand, the visibility remains perfect all day, even during a light swell.
Albatros Beach
Official Nudist Spot📍 Location: Pine Forest Coast, Ulcinj
Stone Terraces
Coastal Path
Deep Water
€ (Managed)
Forget traditional sand: Albatros is a paradise of sculpted stone terraces and emerald waters. Hugged by a lush canopy of fragrant pines, this site offers a sophisticated, “boutique” naturist experience. Here, sun loungers and tiki-style umbrellas are perched over exceptionally clean and transparent water, creating a picturesque setting for those who value both comfort and privacy. As one of the few officially designated nude beaches in Montenegro, stripping right off is not just accepted; it is the celebrated norm.
Whenever you need to refresh, simply descend one of the fixed ladders directly into the cooling deep. It is an effortless, clean transition from sunbathing to swimming, avoiding the uneven entries common at wilder rocky beaches.
Ladies Beach (Ženska Plaža)
Women Only📍 Location: Pinjes Coastal Road, Ulcinj
Concrete & Rock
Road / Walk
Deep (Ladders)
€ (Entrance Fee)
Located along the scenic Pinjes coastal road just a short walk from town, Ladies Beach is a legendary sanctuary reserved exclusively for women. This rocky cove is world-renowned for its natural sulfur springs, which mix with the seawater to offer unique therapeutic benefits. It is a space where women of all ages come to bathe “au naturel” in a supportive, private environment. The beach features concrete platforms for lounging and two metal ladders that provide direct access to the exceptionally clear, deep water.
Take off all jewelry before entering the water! The high sulfur content will instantly tarnish silver (turning it black). While it can be polished back to life, it’s best to avoid the hassle. Additionally, water shoes are a must for navigating the large, slippery rocks and sea cliffs.
