Parking in Kotor 2026: Official Rates & Hidden Free Spots

Since Kotor’s Old Town is entirely pedestrianized, your first challenge is finding a place to leave your vehicle. In the peak of summer, the small coastal roads surrounding the historic core turn into a bottleneck, and parking spaces become the most valuable real estate in the Bay.

The Rule of Thumb: Almost all parking near the Old Town is pay-only, with one notable exception. If you are traveling on two wheels, motorcycles and scooters can park for free in the designated area adjacent to the Sea Gate (the main entrance to the Old Town). If you see yellow lines, keep driving – those are strictly reserved for residents and official vehicles, and the local Pauk (tow truck) is famously efficient at removing unauthorized cars from these spots within minutes.

The Official Municipal Lots

These car parks are managed by the municipality and remain the most reliable choice for visitors. Parking is paid at the exit booth upon departure. As you enter Kotor, keep an eye on the on-street electronic displays – these provide real-time updates on available spots in each lot.

Kotor Parking Fine

Strict Enforcement: To avoid heavy fines or being towed by the local ‘Spider’ service, ensure your vehicle is parked only within designated areas.

Private Alternatives: Kamelija Shopping Center

If the municipal lots are full, the private lot at Kamelija Shopping Center is a viable alternative. While the standard rate for cars is €2.00 per hour (or a €30 flat daily rate), please note that vans, campers, and minibuses are charged a premium rate of €7.00 per hour.

Pro Tip: Parking at Kamelija is free if you spend at least €10 at the supermarket or shops inside. Simply present your receipt when exiting to have your ticket validated at the booth.

Free Parking in Kotor

You can also find free parking in Kotor. Most residential areas, in particular those further away from Kotor’s Old Town, have their unpaid parking lots. If you are visiting Kotor and do not intend to use your car daily, you might want to consider leaving your car there.
Here are some small but free parking lots closest to the center:
Residential Free Lot → A small open-access lot located within walking distance to the southern approach of the city.
Njegoševa Street (Street Parking) → Unpaid street-side parking. Availability is limited during peak morning hours.
Note: When utilizing residential parking, please ensure your vehicle is parked legally and not obstructing local traffic or private entrances.

Essential Tips for a Smooth Visit

  • Payment: While most lots now have automated machines, it is always wise to carry Euro coins or small notes. Card readers in Montenegro can be temperamental.
  • The “Started Hour” Rule: All municipal parking is charged per every started hour. Even staying for 65 minutes will result in a two-hour charge.
  • Avoid the “Spider”: Do not park on sidewalks or block garage entrances in residential areas. The local tow truck (known as the Pauk or “Spider”) is extremely efficient and expensive.
  • Summer Arrival: During July and August, the central Riva and Benovo lots are usually full by 10:00 AM. Aim for Autoboka if you arrive later in the day.
