The Local Verdict
While I am personally more a fan of intimate coves and long sandy stretches, I can certainly appreciate the logic of this place. The cocktail-heavy party crowd gravitates toward the center, leaving the outer edges as a surprisingly quiet retreat for families. Because the coast here is open to the currents of Cape Platamuni, the water is deep, bracing, and exceptionally clear. Since I adore exploring the underwater world with my mask and snorkel, Ploče’s northern rocky perimeters (until the Platamuni lighthouse) are my go-to for their peerless, high-definition visibility.

Ploče Beach is an architectural anomaly that defies the typical Adriatic cove aesthetic. Situated on the rugged part of the Budva Riviera, this complex of terraced stone decks, small pebble beaches, and saltwater pools is built directly into the wild cliffs of Cape Platamuni. It is a place of contrast, where the adrenaline of open-sea swimming meets the structured luxury of a modern beach club.
While Ploče is famous for its high-energy atmosphere and legendary foam parties, it is surprisingly multi-dimensional. The clever multi-level design allows the “cocktail-drinking” party crowd to congregate around the central DJ booths, while families, snorkelers, and senior travelers find peace on the outer terraces. It is a rare destination that feels like a private island, yet remains easily accessible from the mainland.
The Four-Pool Complex
The heart of Ploče features four outdoor saltwater pools, each catering to a different vibe. This includes a shallow, well-supervised kids’ pool and a specialized “party pool” for adults. For those who prefer the sea, you can enter via the small pebble beaches tucked between the decks, or use the metal ladders fixed to the cliffs for direct access into some of the most pristine, deep-water snorkeling conditions in Montenegro.
The Cliffside Church of St. Nicholas
With the open sea at your doorstep, one of the most exhilarating ways to explore the Platamuni cliffs is by renting a jet ski from the beach. The water here is deep and less congested than the coves closer to Budva, making it the perfect territory for a high-speed coastal trek. Head north toward the Church of St. Nicholas, which perches precariously on the limestone cliffs above.
Seeing the white stone of the tiny chapel and the Platamuni Lighthouse from the water provides a perspective few tourists ever get to see, a raw, dramatic landscape where the mountains literally dive into the Adriatic.
Dining at the Cape
The culinary offering at Ploče is surprisingly robust for a beach club. The full-service restaurant serves a mix of Adriatic seafood and traditional Balkan grilled meats. While the beach bars focus on creative cocktails and quick bites, the main dining area provides a more relaxed, shaded al-fresco environment with panoramic sea views.
The Sunset Table at Carević While Ploče is perfect for a casual lunch, the true local secret is heading ten minutes up the road to Restaurant Carević for dinner. As the farthest western point of the peninsula, this region offers an unobstructed view of the sun dipping below the horizon. The Carević estate also features an organic farm and petting zoo with horses and goats, perfect for families.
Logistics & Access
Reaching Ploče is an adventure in itself. While there is a large, free parking lot for those driving via Budva, the “local way” to arrive is by water taxi. These boats depart regularly from the Budva Old Town jetty, providing a stunning 15-minute coastal cruise past Jaz and Trsteno beaches before docking at the Ploče stone pier.
Where to Stay
Since Ploče is located on a rugged cape, there are no hotels directly on the beach. Instead, you’ll find exceptional stays in the hills of Krimovica. This area is known for its elevated Mediterranean views and peaceful atmosphere, located just a 5-minute drive from the beach decks.
